For some time now, Harry had been considering a talk with Bond. The flirting did not go unnoticed, it seemed stronger every day. As did Q's discomfort, Harry thought, though that was also harder to judge... and Harry felt as if he were possibly the least qualified person in the world to give someone advice about this sort of thing.

Eventually, though, he decided that what he was mostly concerned about Q's wellbeing. Which he found he cared a great deal about.

He'd decided that he did want to check on Q. So he fell into step with him as they inadvertently met up on the way to home from the beach. "Good morning, Q," he said pleasantly.

"I don't expect advice," Q assured him. "Honestly, even if you had all the answers and the best advice anyone could offer on the topic, I'm not certain I could promise to take it. The heart is a complex thing, and lust... Well, lust is dangerous isn't it? It's so very easy to give into the thrill of a kiss and the temptation of pure ecstasy."

Harry rubbed the back of his neck. And then offered a small, wistful smile. "I suppose it could be. When I was your age... well, it wasn't so simple then." He sometimes wondered what it would be like, to be a young, gay man now. His early twenties were the early eighties. He'd never come out. Actually, he supposed he still hadn't.

"It's still not exactly easy," Q assured him with a soft smile. "It is better though, I can't deny that. ...I do keep it quiet though usually, at work anyway."

[lepidopterologist]

"The Kingsmen remain rather... old fashioned," Harry said. "I never thought - well. I supposed I'm the very model of a repressed brit. Perhaps I should advise you to be more daring lest you wind up like me."

"Are you lonely, Harry?" Q asked softly, his voice taking on a tone of concern that was often felt but seldom heard.

[lepidopterologist]

Harry hesitated. "I suppose so. Well, no more here than I've always been. Is there a difference between being lonely, and being alone?"

[cuppa_q]

"I think so, yes," Q replied, reaching across the table and resting his hand atop Harry's. "Being alone can be peaceful, but being lonely- That can eat at you."

[lepidopterologist]

Harry thought of what he'd said to Eggsy on the plane. That he had regrets. There was a time when he never could have imagined giving a Kingsman advice to follow love.

And when Q touched him, Harry felt his heart start pounding. Jesus.

"I suppose I buried it in work. And now I can't." God he hoped Q couldn't feel his pulse.

If the boffin could, he offered no outward indication, he only gave Harry's hand a comforting squeeze. "So don't bury it. There's no reason to here, after all. There's nothing stopping you from taking comfort in others here. No reason not to make friends, to let go a bit. I'm not saying tumble into romance head first with the first pretty young thing who washes ashore, but- Why deny yourself here? Why hide?"

"Good lord, I don't think I'd even know where to begin," Harry confessed.

"You just- Get to know them, take an interest, talk to them, and then see if anything sparks," Q said, letting go of his hand and sitting up slightly. "Here, try it with me."

[lepidopterologist]

Harry cleared his throat awkwardly, and sat up a little more. "Ah... how so?" He already knew Q. It seemed they were past small talk.

[cuppa_q]

"Just pretend I'm someone else. Pretend we're at a pub," Q suggested, taking his glasses off, as though that might help the other man see him as someone else.

[lepidopterologist]

This was rather ridiculous. Though Harry also appreciated the attempt to help, and perhaps it was a distraction from Q's own problems.

"Ah." He tried to make himself less awkward, and had his doubts that it worked. "Hello there." This was ridiculous. He could do this. Did it as part of the job all the time. ... except that was faking it.

"Hello," Q smiled, easily becoming the man he'd been back in London on the rare occasion he went out on the pull. "I'm Quinton," he added, offering his hand, and the name that had always been his favourite alias.

"Hello, Quentin." Harry took his hand, a shake that lingered just slightly. "I'm Harry. Can I buy you a drink?"

Q leaned back in his seat and let his gaze roam over Harry, slow and flirtatious. "I suppose," he agreed.

[lepidopterologist]

Q had never looked at him like that before; it had been a while since anyone had looked at him quite like that, actually.

"Tell me about yourself, Quentin," he added, leaning forward just a touch, not an ounce of his attention anywhere but on Q.

"What would you like to know, my sign? Perhaps my favourite colour?" Q teased, that tiny grin settling on his lips again

"Your favorite anything," said Harry. "Tell me something that makes you smile." He knew this was fake, but also found that he wanted it to go on.

Q seemed thoughtful, resting his elbows on the table and leaning forward slightly. "Learning how things work. Taking things apart and then putting them back together so they're good as new- Better than, even," he said, deciding to go with what was true to offer a more genuine feel to it all.

“That’s a wonderful ambition,” said Harry pleasantly. “I like making things better, too... I’m a tailor.”

[cuppa_q]

Q couldn't help but smile at that, and he flashed a tiny grin. "That explains why you're so sharply dressed."

[lepidopterologist]

"This isn't even my best," Harry said, which was oh so very true, considering that he was wearing what he'd salvaged (though tailored) from the closet here. "But thank you. Your glasses..." He reached out, about halfway. "They're crooked, may I?"

Q nodded in approval but said nothing for a moment.
